
About the Commission
Manipur State Commission for Women
The Manipur State Commission for Women was established in 2006 under the Manipur State Commission for Women Act, 2006. The Act extends to the whole State of Manipur, and the Commission works as a statutory body for safeguarding women's rights, welfare, and access to justice.
The Commission consists of a Chairperson, three Members, and staff appointed by the State Government. It also takes up any matter referred by the State Government.
Investigate and examine matters relating to safeguards provided for women under the Constitution of India and other relevant laws.
Recommend steps to the State Government for effective implementation of safeguards and welfare measures for women.
Undertake promotional and educational research to improve representation of women across public, social, and economic spheres.
Look into complaints and suo motu matters relating to deprivation of women's rights and non-implementation of protective laws.
Take up non-compliance of policies, guidelines, and relief measures with appropriate authorities, including police and legal support systems.
